METHODIST DAY SCHOOL

Methodist Day School
FEBRUARY NEWS We are blessed!
The
preschool was given a $1500.00 donation by Carter and Jill Wheeler to purchase something special for the children at the school.
Their generous donation will touch and enhance the lives of all the boys and girls. The funds will be used for academic
classroom purchases.
Garage Sale Our playground
toys need to be replaced and replenished. The preschool parents are joining with the staff to plan a garage sale to
be held in March. Donations from our church family would be greatly welcomed and appreciated. Items for the sale can
be dropped off at the preschool or church office. Thank you for your help!

The goals and objectives of our program encompass skills the students will need to master before entering kindergarten.
The goals include academic, social, motor, music, arts, emotional and faith development. The staff is loving, kind and
dedicated, recognizing the individual needs and personalities of each little child. The learning project for the day
is interspersed with games, laughter, hugs and spontaneity. Our music and arts programs are given as high a priority
as our academic program. Our staff members believe that enhancement of the heart is as important as facts for the mind.

Our Curriculum
Methodist Day School uses the A Beka Curriculum interspersed with some
Montessori teachings. The program is a phonics-based curriculum. The children are introduced to the vowels first
and then the remainder of the alphabet in order, beginning with the letter a. After the vowels are learned, through
symbols and signs, beginning word formation is started. After the entire alphabet has been learned, by sight and sound,
writing journals are begun. These journals eventually incorporate whole sentences, formed phonetically.
The number curriculum consists of using symbols and signs repetitiously
through the use of a number poem book. The number center has counting bears and beads, an estimating jar, number sets
for matching, number games, rulers, tape measures.
Music Appreciation is incorporated through use of our room set aside
specifically for music and gross motor activities. There is a piano for the children's use, instruments, dancing ribbons
and scarves, a tape and CD player.
There are large areas for rope jumping, hopscotch, bean bag-tossing,
balance beam, parachute play and dancing.
The art areas contain tables set up with several mediums of paints,
pla-doh and clay, stencils, scissors and glue, beads, shells, beans, feathers, sequins and other craft activities.
The play ground area allows the children opportunities for gross motor
activities through ball play, hula hoops, tricycles, scooters, wagons, roller skate, jump ropes, sand play, along with swings,
tunnels, slides, a merry go round and a water table.
